    I love the idea to overwrite the program item with a digit, but suggest which digit is configurable.

    Personally I need it to show me (at a glance on my android home screen) how many tasks are still due today and not yet complete.

    DGT-GTD app does this, and it is so useful I still have their app icon on my home screen for this use, even though I now use Ultimate To-Do application instead.
