Clean interface
Great software in terms of functions, but it lacks usability. What about simple and clean interface like in RTM or Astrid? You can organize main screen to be more comfortable with icons instead of text lines. Make design more delicate, rounded corners are ugly. It should have professional look, it is paid app, not a student home project! I would pay 20$ for this app if it will have clean interface.
Version 3 has just been released, which supports a redesigned interface.

on my Kindle Fire text often touches the far left edge of the screen, a couple of pixels margin would be less annoying

Hi,
I agree with all others in regards of the UI that needs to be improved and that it is functionally awesome. Here is what I would like to have for the UI:
(1) A big horizontal bar that seperate the first level of sort like in DGT GTD and Toodledo app. (if I sort by status, I would see : Next Action, Active... etc)
(2) The possibility of modifiing the display option for task is nice, but I'd prefer to simply see everthing at a glace like in DGT GTD.
-At least to see those :
Task title, length expected, icons, folder/context, status, goal, start date, due date and priorities. Right now, we can only see 5 of these.
-If you could add also these it would be nice :
actual length (near of estimated to be able to compare quickly), reminder
-And, the rest if it's not too full. So right now we have 5 space and I would need at least 9.(3) It would be nice to have some preset views that use the popular technics that users of Toodledo might use (GTD, 1MTD, MYN, pomodoro?).
(4) The left colored bar is nice (even more that we can change it) but a legend would be usefull. Especially for status.
(5) In the home screen, next to the number of task, if we could see late task as well, like in DGT GTD it would be usefull.
(6) Like others said, reduce the number of tap as much as possible.
Thank you.

I'd like to have the shortcut list on the left side (tablet version) configurable. There are too many views I never use. I basically use the ones I have created for myself.

I have to agree. What a wonderfully powerful, stable, and reliable app, far exceeding others. This said, it looks quite dated. Why not a hold look?

I think the bad first impression the looks of the program creates, is purely due to the icons. They're mostly flat and often with thick lines. (This does make them very clear, though.) The current fashion is rather for icons with highlighting, shading and gradients. For example, the 'Knowledge Base' icon on this very page has a gradient to it. If it would be plain blue, it would suddenly look old-fashioned, as well. Hire an arts student to rework the icons and a lot is gained with little work.
P.S. I agree the looks should be improved. They cost customers.

Functionally awesome. Looks like a bad relic from the Gingerbread days. Last update was July for phone and November for tablet. Both 2012! If it wasn't for the fact I was already using the app I would have skipped it repeatedly in a search because an app that looks firmly like it was designed for Gingerbread, has not been updated for ICS holo and beyond, and hasn't been updated for such a long time, is obviously not seriously being supported. I'm sure you are losing both tablet and phone purchases because the look of your apps pales in comparison to those that have kept up with design guidelines. People that buy this kind of productivity app are willing to pay money.

Built-in timer function is a great feature of UTDL. I use UTDL due to it.
However, I need "too many taps".
2 taps to start timer (tap and open task detail→timer start)
4-5 taps to change the task of measuring ((open task detail→) task done→back task list→open another task→timer start).
I'd like to do these operations on "one tap" .If it is possible, UTDL will be the best life-log tool in the world.Good interface must have ease of access. NEW UTDL too.
Thanks for reading to the end. -

Actually i think the app looks quite nice when the text size is set to Tiny, and the Light theme is activated. The calendar could be a bit nicer though.

*Please* get a professional graphic designer to take a look at this. I absolutely love your app but am thinking about switching to Pocket informant just because looking at Ultimate todo is not so much fun or nice to do.
Of course this is a bit superficial. But that doesn't mean this does not affect many, if not the majority of your users!

Please take a look at GTasks by Dato. The list view is clean and easy to the eyes.

The todo list view looks clutter no matter how I change the font size.

My propositions:
1. Change the app icon, as suggestive as it is, it looks having low detail and amateurish...doesn't do justice to the app ant it's the first thing you come into contact.
2. Change the colour of the menu blue bar - to match better the text background, and make the icons on it dynamic(react to tap) and higner res.Anuway, these things are not critical for the end user, so I'll use my votes on functionality requests :)

I rely heavily on my todo list. When I moved to android I looked at literally every todo list app on the market looking for the perfect one. Ultimate todo is the best in terms of functionality but I missed it the first time round because the interface is visual quite basic and cluttered compared to the likes of Astrid and 2do. Improving the visual appeal and clarity of the interface would improve the apps popularity as compared to Astrid and 2do because visually it is behind but functionally it is way ahead.

I'd agree functionality-wise the app is EXCELLENT (and not buggy). But lately I've been looking at a lot of similar apps which are more attractive/practical (even flexible) top-level. It's like y'all put the back of the house "utility view" top-level. Considering how most people choose apps "at a glance", it's important to make the first impression a good one. Why not polish some up top?

While I agree with the premise, it must not be at the expense of workflow (i.e. the number of taps/clicks to perform a function). The market is flooded with task list apps that look great but either are missing a LOT of functionality, or have looks and functions, but the functions are 3-4 taps away. Truth be told, I love this app, but already has some of the "too many taps" caveats, IMHO.
Definitely look at making UTDL more "sexy" and easy to visualize / use, but limited screen real-estate will force a delicate balance.
